AIC's statement on "A Separation" winner of Golden Globe

The American Iranian Council extends a note of congratulations to Asghar Farhadi and his crew for winning the Golden Globe for the best foreign film in 2012! Dr. Hooshang Amirahmadi, AIC President, in a short video offers his interpreting of the film, focusing on its philosophy and significance.

This prize, the first from the US for the Iranian film industry, comes at a time when the news from US regarding Iran is often focused on sanctions, isolation, covert operations and threat of war. It is in this context that the news of the prize takes a special significance as the movie portrays a more realistic image of the Iranian society and its people. This in turn will hopefully contribute to a better understanding and relations between the two nations. As Mr. Farhadi, the director of the movie, rightly put it, "the Iranian people are truly peace-loving," and they are certainly looking forward to a day when the two countries will work together as equal partners.
